About the position

FreeWheel, a Comcast company, is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a dedicated team of Data Engineers. This role is pivotal in addressing complex data challenges using advanced data collection, transformation, analysis, and monitoring tools in the cloud. The new platform aims to develop the next generation of Audience & Identity data solutions, capable of handling vast amounts of data and leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to unlock business value. As a team leader, you will oversee projects that involve new development, enhancements, and cross-functional integrations, collaborating closely with product and management teams. In this role, you will provide mentorship and coaching to your team, facilitating their career development and ensuring they stay updated with industry advancements. You will be responsible for planning and designing software applications, collaborating with stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements, and managing deliverables to meet deadlines and budgets. As the primary liaison between teams, you will foster strong communication and monitor project progress, reporting findings to leadership. You will also advocate for improvements in data quality, security, cost efficiency, and performance, while conducting performance reviews to ensure adherence to company standards. This position requires a commitment to regular attendance, with the possibility of working nights, weekends, and overtime as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or a similar field of study.
  • ,
  • 5+ years of data engineering experience.
  • ,
  • 2+ years' experience scaling and managing teams of 5 or more individuals.
  • ,
  • Strong communication and leadership experience, with a proven track record of initiating and driving projects.
  • ,
  • Passion for growing and developing engineers, helping them advance in their careers.
  • ,
  • Experience fostering collaboration among team members through effective processes.
  • ,
  • Ability to make trade-offs required to ship without compromising quality or team health.
  • ,
  • Self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and enjoys working in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Experience maintaining a technical roadmap and balancing novel asks from engineering, product, and other stakeholders against improvements to the existing platform.

  • Expertise in at least one backend language, such as Java, Scala, Python, or Golang, with a focus on Scala and Python for this role.

  • Familiarity with ETL processes and creating pipelines for large datasets.
  • ,
  • Experience utilizing cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS.
