About the position The TxDOT Support Services Division is seeking a highly motivated individual for a Civil Engineer position. In this role, you will be responsible for performing advanced civil engineering work for TxDOT buildings and structures, as well as site development. This includes working independently and providing engineering support for design teams. The selected candidate's work location may be Headquarters in Austin or any of the 25 TxDOT District offices located throughout Texas. As a Civil Engineer I, you will perform facilities engineering work related to buildings and site development, in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, and construction administration. You will ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. The position requires contact with governmental officials and private entities, and issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Your essential duties will include driving to project locations to conduct on-site engineering reviews, monitoring consultants' progress and work quality, performing complex engineering design work, reviewing and certifying project design plans, and serving as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced engineering work. You will also prepare and seal engineering construction documents for bidding, review shop drawings and specifications, and coordinate phases of preliminary design with various stakeholders. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple projects effectively. Responsibilities • Perform advanced civil engineering work for TxDOT buildings and structures, and site development. , • Drive to project locations to conduct on-site engineering reviews, analyses, and tests. , • Monitor consultants' progress and work quality; check invoices and associated documents; prepare supplemental agreements. , • Perform complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts. , • Review, process, and certify project design plans developed by consulting engineers. , • Serve as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work. , • Prepare and seal engineering construction documents for bidding. , • Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements, and change order requests relative to facility construction. , • Utilize project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing for complex mechanical and/or structural engineering projects related to facility construction. , • Coordinate phases of preliminary design and revisions in PS&E with districts, divisions, Administration, contractors, fabricators, and local entities. , • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science accepted by TX PELS. , • 4 years of experience in engineering, structural engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related engineering. , • Valid driver's license required for driving a state vehicle. , • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or must obtain a Texas PE license within six months of hire. Nice-to-haves • Experience with construction engineering policies and procedures. , • Knowledge of facility planning, design, and site development. , • Proficient in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
