About the Role

As a Data Engineer (L5) at Netflix, you'll be responsible for developing and maintaining the data pipelines that fuel our business insights, product features, and machine learning models. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable, efficient, and reliable data solutions that meet the needs of our rapidly evolving business. Your expertise in data engineering will help us to better understand our customers, improve our content offerings, and drive business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain large-scale data pipelines and architectures that support business-critical applications
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, product managers, and engineers to identify data requirements and develop data-driven solutions
  • Build and maintain data models, data warehouses, and data governance frameworks that enable business insights and decision-making
  • Work with distributed data processing systems, such as Apache Flink or Spark, to develop scalable and efficient data processing pipelines
  • Troubleshoot and optimize data pipelines and architectures to ensure high performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and data lineage to ensure data quality and compliance
  • Partner with data scientists and analysts to develop and deploy machine learning models and other data-driven applications
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in data engineering and make recommendations for adoption

Qualifications and Skills

To succeed as a Data Engineer (L5) at Netflix, you'll need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, such as Java, Scala, or Python
  • Experience with SQL and data modeling
  • Strong understanding of distributed data processing systems, such as Apache Flink or Spark
  • Experience with data warehousing and data governance
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with uncertain requirements

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Knowledge of data security and compliance regulations
